Well, Hasbro saw that they could sell 5 poa figures for the same price as the fully articulated figures from a few years ago, so they cut on their expenses.
People did rush the stores last night to get these figures so they can congratulate themselves.

I picked up two figures this afternoon and even though they are 5 poa, at least the heads on the two I got are ball joints. Honestly they aren't that bad. I figure I can pay 7 bucks for a baconator combo a Wendy's or get a figure that at least I can keep. I'll go with the figure.

Had no desire to go out last night or order off Amazon. I figured if I found anything running errands today, I'd decide then. Got the 6-in Rey and Kylo figures, because that was all I really wanted. Since I had the Target coupon, I went ahead and got a 4 in Rey and two Stormtroopers for my son. Got the small Rey because the paint apps on the face looked no where near as horrid as pre-pics.

I remember during Ep I, Target has the figures for $8 then dropped them to $5 about a week later. I hope Disney gets smart and does that, otherwise a lot of plastic is going to rot on the pegs. And those $13 Imaginext figures? Those will be clearance fodder. Nobody was touching those and the shelves were still full.

I think the 6" line looks good. I want Kylo Ren and the new red dude a lot. A Stormtrooper would be nice, too. Walmart has them for a little under $19. Why would you buy the 5poa 4" for $15 at TRU if you can get a 6" for $4 more? Wow.

I succumbed to the Dark Side...

I didn't mean to.

I hadn't planned on buying anything.

I had to run to Wal-Mart to pick up something that was being held for me (which it wasn't) and ended up getting four hardcover books and four figures: Finn, Resistance Trooper, Stormtrooper, and Stormtrooper Flamethrower.

In my defense, I could use parts for WIPs...

So....the good figures are exclusives, and in the whole wave, there are only 2 Episode VII figures?

Translation: the only figures you want will be overly expensive and impossible to find. The characters everyone already has dozens of will rot on the shelves after the 2 Ep7 figures are bought up in the first five minutes, they'll never restock, and Hasbro will declare the line a failure while quietly creeping the price point of the crappy articulation figures up to $13.

I just took a look at my Walmart.
All the Force Awakens stuff was barely touched.
They put the lone Han Stormtrooper in the clearance aisle for FULL price.
Then there was the future Star Wars spot in the aisle...

Yeah, my walmart was pretty picked over. I only really wanted a Rey and maybe Kylo, but they had neither. I'll live.

I went to a midnight release at my local TRU. I was underwhelmed. I thought they were going to have more product than they did. While the section for Star Wars was large, I expected bigger. They also only had maybe 3 cases of figures and didn't get many other items that were listed for Force Friday. Walmart had some interesting things when I went there after work, but it was pretty picked over. Target had a nice selection, grabbed the X-Wing there.

While I understand the economical point of bringing back older figures under the new Episode VII banner, why can't they just release characters from the movie?

For the 4"Black series in particular. Why bother with the same old versions of the old core characters again and again when they finally have new versions for them?
How come there's no new Han, Luke and Leia available? Maybe they don't want to spoil anything, but still, it's time to let go and bring some new stuff to the pegs. I already have a well articulated Jedi Luke, heck, I think I probably have more than one with all the different releases during the Legacy days, so why would get this new overpriced one when I should be able to get an old Master Luke instead?

SPOILERS!!!! ;-) That's why they don't like to release the new characters early. I'm sure there will be lots of old Luke, Han, & Leia for years to come.

Besides this one is new...

And they *still* sculpt Leia so she looks like a chimp.
