Post subject: Unimax and BBI figures. How do you like em?

Hey guys,

As I am looking further into every nook and cranny of the 1:18 military action figure world, I, obviously, encounter new things occasionally. I've seen some of the "lower end" BBi figures, and even bought one. I think the figures that are the next step up provide some sweet gear, and some nice body parts that could be swapped in to our custom builds to make these figures I build look a little different. I don't want just Joe parts, because everybody will look at it, and immediately know which figure(s) were utilized. And no matter how well my paint customizations are, etc, I feel that most people will have done something similar. I'd like to incorporate these other figures some if I can.

How do you guys like the BBI figures as compared to the Unimax figures. Do you have a preference? Does one line work better with the Hasbro Joes? Also, how impossible are these to get? Should I anticipate spending $20 a figure? Do you guys have any favorites from these collections?

If BBI has new figures coming out soon (seemingly a theme in this hobby), maybe I should start adding a couple old figures from the lines, and then see what comes out. I'd just love some input on experiences you've had, and how the results turned out.

Also, how many of you guys use Star Wars heads, body parts, etc. Do they offer anywhere near the articulation the Joes offer? I know the ones I had as a kid had straight legs, and arms that moved at the shoulder. Have they advanced since then?

Thanks for the input, everybody. It's appreciated more than you know.

BTW, pictures are always good!

i use any 1:18 figures i can find cheap! MIB have been good for my needs and indiana jones are really useful. the military stuff i try and just snag large lots off ebay. actually one of my first figure buys was a large lot of the bbi and unimax stuff. heads, hands, and feet are so useful. guns, crates, gas cans and smaller bits are very nice in these lines :)

check out my humble beginnings! i still plan on going back and cleaning those tropic thunder figures up :) forever a work in progress!

a simple answer is buy fodder lots as cheap as you can! for me the "winning" is having parts on hand when inspiration hits :like:

Regarding Star Wars, I use the heads and helmets, but that is about it.

I don't do as much regular military anymore, but Star Wars can also be useful for arms, and sometimes torsos. Really anything in scale can be used these days

I like using the BBI figs with other lines to be either merc type guys,or Terminator verse resistance fighters. Usually I bash the torso/arms onto a Joe waist with Joe legs, sometimes a Joe neck to use with Joe heads, Star Wars heads, or hollowed out BBI heads to use with the Joe neck ball.

The BBI heads have good detail once you repaint them, they actually have beards, that are just unpainted/poorly painted.

Same with these guys, last 2 use SW heads.
