I want an all green translucent figure-- I'm doing a "glowing one" Feral Ghoul from Fallout. I really like the way the super-poseable Gollum figure from the old LOTR line works for a ghoul base. I thought if I could take the "ring-wearer" translucent figure and replace the head, hands and feet with other translucent parts... could I RIT dye it in green to give it a translucent green tint? |

It should work. Be aware a number of years ago RIT changed formulas and the regular RIT Dye doesn't work on plastics. I believe RIT Dyemore should work. Start with a little so it doesn't go too dark and ruin the translucency. Also, if you can be patient, I've had a little luck with Sharpies on translucent figures. If you can find the "brush" style sharpies in the color you want, and give it plenty of drying time, it's another option though not as clean a look. These were done with Sharpie.

I might suggest stain glass paint, but as with any paint applied around joints, you might suffer paint rub. And I remember years back a guy on another forum talking about using a pressure cooker to get RIT dye to really stick to figure parts, but as was mentioned by DanofTheDead, I'm not sure that would work anymore. Plus from what I remember it was a bit of a "trial and error" thing, so probably not worth the fuss to invest in. |

I'm not too worried about rub since the figure doesn't need to be "pure" translucent. There's be a black wash over it anyway so I can do some black touch ups as needed. Thanks guys! |

Tamiya is the only stuff I've had good luck with. goes on clean. Stinks to high heaven and takes twice as long to dry (when you think it might be dry, just let it dry more because you can't undo fingerprints in translucent), but when it is done it pops. https://www.tamiyausa.com/shop/spray-ps ... ent-green/ |

agree with pluv in terms of just using translucent paint. and with his recommendation. If you're set on dyeing, then pay heed to what Dan said, and also search this section for advice from gijoey where he found a vinyl dye he swears by. Not for sure if that's the best option for translucency though. |

nice! some glow spray paint might work to give you actual gitd and seal it as well . if you do test it on something else sharpie to see if it effects it negatively. |
