Has anyone here used ABS sheet for customizing purposes and if so how would you compare it to styrene sheet ( the common white styrene sheet like Evergreen sells)?

I've seen thin pieces of ABS sheet that are able to be folded in half without breaking however not all polymer blends are the same (ex. ABS plumbing parts are definitely not bending much if at all). Guitar veneers are made of ABS plastic sheet so i hope a guitar owner might b able to shed some light on this for me.

I haven't worked with ABS sheets, but TAP Plastics and other places do sell it (in fact, you can get a 1/8" x 4" x 4" sample piece for $2 from TAPP). You might just want to get a sample to play with. I know from printing, I've printed pieces with living hinges, and the ABS used for filament handles this just fine. ABS in general is more forgiving than styrene, though, so the sheets should be as easy, if not easier, to work with compared to styrene.

I bought a few pieces on Ebay. Based upon what I've seen online (I watched a TAP plastic video amongst other sources of info) it should be fine for what I need . Thanks for the input Mark.

I've seen the masterful weapons that Obishinobi made with sheet and rod styrene at SlayerCon2. They were incredible. He gifted me the hand axe and I still marvel at the craftsmanship. I bought some sheet styrene over a decade ago, about 1/32" thick and about the size of a large greeting card. Never used it though.

1/32'' is a good thickness for custom work. I have 1mm on the way which is going to require more dremel work than xacto work but the price was right for that thickness so i bought it anyway. I've been *so* bored or turned off by the price of most toy manufacturers offerings that i've basically turned to scratch building. I tested the water a few months back with papercraft and was impressed . Now it's time to convert those models into full blown durable toy vehicles.

I've found over the years that styrene can become brittle and crack or break. Still great for fabricating but I stopped using it for supports or anything that has to move.
