Essentially I have a surplus of Big Bear's AK-74 sitting around in a fodder tray and would like to do something with them.

I was looking up AK-74s and the variants earlier, then took a break to flip through a Metal Gear Solid 4 game guide.

One of the weapons shown was the PP-Bizon SMG.

It looks remarkably similar to the AK-74, and after using more google-fu, I discovered the Bizon is based on the AK-74 with 60% commonality parts.

My interest piqued, now comes the question. How do I mod the Big Bear guns to become PP-Bizons?

Left is Big Bear's AK-74 and on the right is the Bizon.

that "helical" type mag would be easily cut from plastic rod of the right dia. a found item of the right size escapes me at the moment.

to me, lose the sling and too tall front site. add a cylinder mag, and rock on!

I tried modding some with the helical mag. Had trouble getting it to look right/stay on. I guess I'd start by bringing the gun to the hobby shop and looking for some styrene tubing/rods that look the right size. You may need to cut a notch in the tube to fit well with the body of the gun, but beyond that it shouldn't be tough.

Yeah I say add the mag, cut off the sling, and add a new one using any of the various methods.

Definitely the styrene tube to duplicate it exactly. I'd put a vertical slice in the tube on one side so it could slide over the notches and remnants of the straps.

But I also modded one by adding a banana clip right in front of the trigger side strap. So either works really well.
