 Post subject: Shoulder/elbow rivets question

So I'm currently finishing up 2 other art projects, but my next one is making custom joes by making molds of all their pieces, then casting painting etc etc.

My question is about the rivets in the arms.

I want people to ultimately be able to use the ones I make just like any other joe.

I know I can ultimately just drill out the rivers prior to casting all the pieces, but once I'm ready to put one together, does anyone know what size the rivets are?

I know I can just get a rivet gun, but are there different sizes of rivets?

Has anyone on here done this yet?

I'd love some tips specifically for dealing with those arm rivets!

Thanks in advance guys/gals!

-Sin

You're going to want to talk to Nova. He's got a guy who had to custom build a tool to replace vintage rivets. I don't know all the details, but he should have the answers you need.

Casting rivets is more convenient in my experience but there are sources for the rivets available online if you prefer the more "authentic" look.

I sent Nova a link to a source months back when he was looking for them.

Go here to explore the site (,..worth looking around):

Specifically this link for the rivets :

Regarding the rivet press..you can buy them on ebay cheap. Check for the units with free shipping from china. Dollar stores might carry them as well.

Look under snap fasteners, rivet press, button press , etc. you'll find them (with free shipping often).
Or insert and fasten them caveman style heh.
