I'm trying to decide if someone was already updating the old Aliens marine figure designs into modern style figures or if I just imagined it. Seems like it would be a fun project if not...

http://www.toyarchive.com/Aliens/Toys/AliensFigures.html

Couldn't find anything on a forum search, but I feel like someone else might have done customs of some of these designs...

Didn't Hot Toys put out some 1:18 kits that had Colonial Marines of note? I could've sworn they were made, never saw a single one myself.

Hiya toys is making an Aliens line. It will include Colonial Marines too.

HOT TOYS did indeed do 1/18th USCM Apone, Hicks & Drake.
Alas they are very hard to find now and Not cheap if you do.

Hiya Toys looks interesting with the Xeno, so cannot wait to see the USCM figures. However are they doing Film Marines or more the Game Marines with the slightly different Armour?

NECA is making 7" scale updates of these.

The Hiya line will include the jar heads only if the bugs sell well enough. My understanding is that there's no proto sculpted out yet, so it's still an official 'maybe'.

And the Hot Toys Snap Kits were most cool (there was a Ripley in her fight-with-the-Queen outfit, too), but the engineering wasn't great and they were a metric pain-in-the-ass to assemble.

I've thought about trying this myself. I was so thrilled to get anything Aliens-related at that point that I bought all of the Marine figures, even though they bore little resemblance to what I really wanted (accurate movie-based figures). Over the years, I've developed kind of a soft spot for the weirdo designs for the characters, and every now and then I'll stumble onto a part that would work for a 1:18-scale version of them. I hope you end up giving this a shot; I'd be curious to see your take on those designs.

I'm not really interested in the Hiya line. Mostly because the designs are from the Colonial Marines videogame, not the film's. Also because from what I've read these are being listed as 3.75" scaled, standing 4" high. That might be ok to go with smaller lines like Star Wars and those Star Trek and Terminator lines, but too short compared to many modern lines. I am imagining these as being much like the Microman versions that were put out a few years ago, though with better sculpts from the looks of them.

I have yet to see anything better than the Hot Toys snap kits Aliens. The Aliens themselves can be found for reasonable prices, and are the best representations of the warriors from Aliens, in the 1:18 format.

All you have to do is heat up the limbs with a hairdryer, and they slide right on the ball joints so easily that a 5 year old with arthritis could do it. ;-)

There is a company remaking the toys from the original I'll stop on my way home from work and get the name. I do know that it says they are adult collectibles not toys

Are they remaking the 90's Kenner Aliens figures, or are you thinking of the 70's 'Star Wars' style figures that Funko / ReAction put out?

Also with the Hot Toys snap kits, a few Revoltech joints can fix pretty much all of the articulation issues with the Aliens.
I've seen people do this with the crappy McFarlane 1:18 AVP Aliens, but I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would bother going through the effort with those horrible sculpts. Not only are the Hot Toys molds light years better, but they already have articulation. It's just a simple matter of swapping out their more limited ball joints, with the revoltech joints.

Scale comparison with a modern Joe figure.

Unless a company can put out product comparable to the Hot Toys snap kits, in sculpt, scale, and overall presentation, then I will have no interest. This is one property that I will gladly pay a premium to get great items for, but at premium prices the items need to be worth it.

The Funko figures are fun for what they are. I actually like them quite a bit.
Of course they are basically just display items for me.

Same with me. The figures were far from great, but man was I stoked that they were actually making Aliens figures, of any kind.
I still prefer film accurate items, and I seriously doubt I'd ever buy them all again, but I also have a bit of a soft spot for these figures.
I still have the KB Toys exclusive Marines vs. Aliens 2-packs that they put out, a couple of the Alien warriors from the Aliens vs. Predator 2-pack, and my old Queen playset.

Not scientific by any stretch, but I think this crude diagram demonstrates my height concerns with the Hiya figures.

Image

Even with the legs almost fully extended (and Storm Shadow leaning backwards a little) the Alien is too short compared to an average modern figure.
I do like how they tried to make it look larger, by using forced perspective and putting the Alien on a stand.

Are you referring to the standard 7" line they are already doing, or have they actually stated that they are doing the old Kenner designs in their 7" line? That would be kind of interesting to see. Not sure I'd buy any of them, but it would definitely be interesting to see those designs sculpted in a 'realistic' style.

Didn't they do some pretty obscure Predator repaints based on the Kenner line and some of the video games?
