just wanting to know how this figure is put together, is that a screw hole in the back like old school 3.75 joes?

or is the figure like the newer ,crack and reglue, two piece torso joes?

looks like compatable parts, anyone have experiance using these for customs?

just as an example, no affiliation with this seller-

That's from the Hulkbuster set released with the most recent Hulk movie. Aside from the head, it's all newsculpt joe parts. There were also generic hulkbuster soldiers released using joe parts (two versions).

I picked up a few of these sets http://www.yojoe.com/archive/actfig/inc ... stersquad/ to have some generic Army characters.

I discovered not many heads fit the Blonsky (Rollbar) torso or the Hulkbuster Soldier (Sgt Bazooka) torso.

They can be unscrewed at the back though.

The figure uses parts from what was called "new sculpt" era, also known as the JvC or Joe vs Cobra era... 2002 - 2006 or so... It uses parts from the later years Valor vs Venom or DTC (Direct to consumer)

The figure construction is similar to the Vintage ARAH with 2 legs screws, a T- hook, O-ring, and Chest screw...just different proportions.

There wasn't great standarizaton so heads aren't as easily swappable... it may take some modifications...most of the neck balls, actually look like a Half hemisphere with the neck coming out of the top.

I've not taken any of these specific figures apart, but some times the thighs were glued in addition to the screw

awsome, i'm just glad they are screwbacked ! glad to learn what newsculpt means, i noticed the odd proportions from the "mid-school" lines.

i'm still scared of the newer style .....

This is why I asked if we could have a glossary on this board, so everyone knew the lingo...and knowing is half the battle!

'Newsculpt' is such a dumb term since it's in accurate due to them no longer being the new sculpts.

Imho, there are 3 eras of 18th Joes, broken up by their obvious standards in engineering. These eras represent pretty distinct periods of brand administration and design/engineering philosophy. There's no need for periods other than RAH, JvC, and 25A+. 'Newsculpt' is meaningless and about twice as long a term than needed to get your point across more accurately.

And the JvC era is almost wholly worthless for collecting or customizing, too. There's so little good to be found it's not even worth sifting thru it all. But, that Blonsky fig and it's buck-predecessors are amongst the good stuff for that JvC era.

There are not many heads to fit that Blonsky/SAW Viper/Rollbar torso but the plastic on that era makes trimming to fit easy enough. It has the half ball with the neck coming up but its quite a bit smaller than any others. The Hulkbuster Troops/Bazooka mold on the other hand was all alone in its design. The neck tapered down into a very small full ball. Some, but not all of the PTE guys at Big Lots will fit nicely. Look for the SEAL divers if I remember correctly. That should be some of your ski masked guys too.

Fortunately, the troopers are pretty decent on their own. They had some variations, too, as I remember (green armor instead of gray, a green vested Blonsky, and a few that were molded as a solid piece). There were also the VvV Shipwreck/ Steel Brigade hulkbusters from the TRU pack.
