I'm looking for alternatives to Kleen Klay for mold making. The stuff is just way too sticky. Even using mold release I still have a lot of residue left over that takes a long time to clean up. Or in some cases, impossible to clean off. I'm looking into Alumilite's mold making clay. Does anyone know how sticky that stuff is? Any other options?

I'm currently using this stuff. I'm using the soft, because the plasticine I was using before could be difficult to smooth a new piece in the existing, when I was trying to seal up a mold box, or make a clay bed I could sink the part into. I've only made a couple of molds with it, but I haven't had any trouble with it, so far.

If it ain't broke, take it apart and lose some of the pieces. Then, it'll be a custom.

It has been a couple of years since I've used it, but I don't remember the Alumilite clay being overly tacky. I do, however, remember that some of the clay will attach to the original piece when it is removed. Hope this helps.

I got an email response form Alumilite, it seems their clay is a klean klays and can sometimes be tacky.

I like that it was right in the description.

The molding I do is small scale and usually doesn't require much of anything to work with. That said, I've used some Crayola clay that was non drying a few times. It worked fine. Wasn't sticky at all and held up. The only issue I had is the item I was casting was slightly porous, so it absorbed some of the clay color.
