Post in here if you want to work on the Modern Era version of the charity custom. We'll start spit balling design ideas and get this baby rolling.

So what do you think about the softball team ronin mentioned in the original discussion thread?

I think there are a lot of cool design elements we can use in there. The camo shirt is right in our wheel house and the parts should be pretty easy to gather.

I still had some reservations about this idea (only about how it would be received, I think it's a great idea in concept) but had the chance to talk to a few friends who were in the Marines about it and they both were incredibly supportive of the idea. One of them suggested including a therapy dog with one of the figures as a way to acknowledge PTSD and otherconditions (TBI/MST), which I thought was a really good idea.

I also like the idea of doing a figure based on the Softball team. Not sure if we should base it on a specific individual from the team though.

There's also the thought that we could use existing Joe characters as representations.

As a framework, I feel like around 4 figures presented as a set would let us represent a variety of conditions the wounded deal with, the branches of service, a few different ethnicities, and both men and women.

Those are all great ideas.

I ordered parts to put something together and they haven't arrived yet. So I ordered some figures for the project and those haven't arrived yet either. Basically i'm in a holding pattern until I get some of the stuff.

I got the Retaliation Amazon set, and it seems like the box with the four figure slots might make a nice base for the packaging. Could cut a window in the top and add clear plastic so the figures could be displayed while still in the package.

Also saw a flyer for a documentary called "Warrior Champions" about wounded veterans pursuing the Paralympic Games. Seems like it could be a good source of ideas.

What's our deadline on this project? :)

Guys - Kindly let me know if there are any parts or accessories that you are looking for. Odds are that I probably have it in my fodder stock.

I'm thinking of using some of the bulkier parts for the soft ball player if I can take a crack at it (Bazooka base). I don't know what parts/figure you're working on, Pluv, but I'm thinking I might make a few of these and then I can just contribute one, some or all to the final project based on what else gets produced.

Anyone have an extra TVC Rebel Trooper baseball cap, cast or original, or similar piece I could use for the softball player?

Guys,

I found one of the clearanced baseball figures that I picked up awhile back. I just stripped the soft goods and other accessories off of it.

The part include shin guards, baseball cap, chest cover, cleats, catcher's mitt and a mask. The mask is not included in the picture below though.

Anybody have any use for these parts? Let me know.

I'm moving ahead with a set of figures, and am presenting the first two in my sculpture critique tomorrow. I'm very happy with how the first two are coming along, and will share pictures soon. I'm going to plan on doing a full set of 4 figures. If there's still interest, and if anyone else tackles a figure, we can work out which ones to include in the set.

Otherwise, I'm moving ahead, and when I get to the packaging phase I'm certain I could use some help.

I'll see how critique goes and posts my current figures and my notes on the others soon.

Here are the first two. The softball player still needs the camo pattern and team logo on his jersey, and a little detail work around the eyes.

Figure 2 is supposed to represent the idea that a lot of the injuries aren't always visually apparent. It was suggested maybe he could have a therapy dog with him, and I like the idea, but I haven't found a good base dog yet.

I'd like to include a female figure, and thought about basing her on one of the veteran paralympic swimmers, but I'm not quite sure. Two figures in sports gear seems a little redundant.

I'm also planning on doing a wheelchair bound figure, with extensive burns. I'm trying to figure out a tactful way to handle the severe facial burns without it looking like it's meant for shock value. Can't decide if ROC Rex is appropriate or not for a starting point.

Any thoughts? I'm planning on using the amazon exclusive retaliation box/plastic tray as the base for custom packaging.

The softball player pic isn't showing.

I'd actually check Schliech or Papo for the therapy dog. I think they have a better variety of more neutral expressions and poses.

For the burns, maybe a toned down Two-Face idea where it is more of a scar than a total facial thing might make the visual a little easier to take in. I don't know, that is a tough one because it is such a fine line before you cross over into bad taste.
