I've found with wire on plastic it's best to drill holes where you want it to start and stop, then either force in or glue in the wire. it gives the detail of the wire laying there but is strong enough to handle. I thought you just used metal for a buckle, kind of sitting on the strap.
i'm trying to think of where I used the technique I described to show you. coming up blank at the moment, but here is a figure with lots of wire(naked twist tie) just pressure fit in drilled holes, plus wire pierced chest.
