man i hate spray paint

i used rustoleum flat white "bonds to plastic" 2x cover on my he-man figure. i let it dry for 24hrs and just went to get it ready for skintone. it is all sticky. not just the more rubbery shoulders and legs it's sticky on my fixit sculpt and the hard plastic torso.

i lightly scrubbed it with warm water and soap and it felt better. when the surface dried it was tacky again. i started to paint skintone anyway, why not, then realised it is holding water from when i scrubbed it!

i used to only use walmart flat white and black, but they stopped having it. i think i used krylon the last few times, but grabbed the rustoleum for some reason.

i don't know if it was the paint, or humidity, or??

i'm hoping acrylic will stick to it and dry. sux.

i guess i need to seriously consider a more hobby friendly spray primer. any suggestions? i know sgcaper primes awesome, but i forget what brand he uses.

If you can get Testor's or Tamiya or Army Painter at a hobby store that is the way to go. Finer mist and made for plastics. Short of that, I stick to Krylon fusions/maxx. I also like Rustoleum's Camo system, because earth tone base colors and they do a good job sticking to metal/wood/and plastic (stuff hunter's would use). That makes them something I cna use around the house for stuff beyond just customizing.

Krylon Colormaxx primer seems to work well on most plastics for me, even softer ones. Then use whatever color on top of that.

thanks guys. i started this post thinking i had used this can a lot before, then realized it was rustoleum i picked up recently. i haven't checked on acrylic yet to see how it feels now. so much work into this one to mess up at this step.

if it seems too far gone to be saved, try a coat of mod podge over the top. Has been known to counter the tackyness.

But yeah, Army Painter spray brand for me all the way. Pricey, but worth it.

acrylic stuck and dried with little to no tacky ness. i sprayed him matte clear over the acrylic hoping it would hold up better for the final push. i still have to paint the flesh tone again since it is more pink than the tan i was going for, and i've already scratched and chipped him in a few spots.

I only use Games Workshop Chaos Black spray as my primer for this reason, all the others I tried left my stuff sticky. The GW spray goes on easy and dries super fast, I usually paint on it 10-15 minutes after applying, sometimes sooner if I dry it in full sun.

Glad the tackiness went away

i'll look it up. about how far does a can go? is the tip the new kind, or the kind you have to turn upside down and spray to clean out?

holy$znit! that's pricey.
