I didn't take any in progress shots, but this worked really well so I thought I'd share.

I combined the Captain America 2 Red Skull with the Avengers Assemble Red Skull to give the body almost full Joe-level articulation (I also used some IG Destro hands and ROC Viper boots).

Anyway, I sawed the Cap 2 Red Skull at the waist, transplanted the lower coat on the AA Red Skull hips, and replaced the swivel waist peg with the grey lego peg in the picture. Since the torso was hollow, I glued the red lego piece inside of the torso so the grey peg had something to plug into.

Bricklink links for the lego parts:

Does that make any sense?

I also put a little super glue on the peg, so it had more tension. The two parts to click together securely, but the peg will spin freely without the added friction.

how are you anchoring the peg into the waist piece? with heavy use, I wouldn't trust superglue alone to hold the peg in place.

That said, it's pretty ingenious. much cleaner than my tendency to lean on hot glue joints, and potentially better than magnets as well.

I drilled a small indention into the hips, the short side of the peg plugs into them and isn't just glued flush against the flat surface.

I've found it to be very secure so far.

So much so it seems like a good base for make a modular figure design, like if you wanted to be able to swap out torsos on a single figure.

You'd loose the angling motion, but I could see this working on a standard Joe torso too.

I totally did the same thing on my Darknut figure:

I put a piece of styrene in the peg to expand it a little to make the connection a little more snug.

That styrene idea is great!
