So still on my "Proto-Villain" project, here we have another member of Super Joe Team's villains! This is Darkon: Half-Man, Half-Monster. He was an evil clone of Super Joe and an ally of Gor and the Terrons. He was a reuse of the Super Joe mold but with green skin, orange eyes and and black equipment. His unique accessories were a helmet and the Lightning Lance which he often used to deflect light blasts from the good guys.

When remaking him, I knew I wanted to stay true to certain design elements but not do a 1 to 1 remake. We're in 2020 after all.

Original:

Homage:

He was made using City Strike Snake Eyes' body; MTF blonde bearded male head; standard MTF helmet with modded metal rods and mouth guard; Unidentified Cobra vest with modded light ray in the centre; and Lightning Lance built from an expired credit card. I can't believe I almost passed on making this guy. Such a fun project.

*Update*

I forgot to show this off but Darkon's chest piece is compatible with Transformers War for Cybertron Trilogy blast effects. Here he is with Siege Firedrive's blast effects.

Super Joe doesn't get enough love from collectors. I like this. Great update.

Love this. I've been revisiting all my old Joe customs (will start posting soon - waiting on some last-minute parts from Marauder) and my Adventure Team is a little lame at the moment -- I was focused too much on mercenaries as my AT bad guys without taking too deep of a dive into the actual AT/SuperJoe lore. This opens a whole new realm for me to explore.

Amazing job - love the color & parts choices - and great job capturing the details on the head from the original.

not necessary but to tidy up the lines an easy "fix" for the elbow gap would be some black heatshrink or some build and brawl elbow pads.

Thanks! Yea. Super Joe remains obscure and forgotten. I didn't know anything about it myself until around last year. Here's hoping this sort of exposure helps.

Thanks! I can understand not delving too deep into the villain roster. G.I. Joe and Super Joe only had a handful and they were all science fiction aliens: The Intruder Commander, The Intruder Warrior, Gor, Terron and Darkon.

When you do delve into it, post them. I'd love to see your renditions!

Is there a tutorial? I don't really want to give him black elbow pads but if this method can just cosmetically allow the elbow to appear clean, I'm down.

there isn't a tutorial specific to using it at elbows. if you buy some just practice on a figure you don't care about, especially if you use a lighter vs. hot water or air. since this dude is painted it will take a very light touch with any heat source. there are tons of colors of heatshrink out there, different types too. i bought some by mistake that is like rigid packaging after it's formed (like bundled rc car battery covering). i also got some some 2" wide clear that didn't work out.

you can get a set from ebay for a few dollars.
