Since it took me a week to come up with my idea, this will basically be a one-week challenge, but who's counting? I don't really play a ton of video games, so my knowledge of them is basically middle-aged-'80s-dad level at this point. Plus, when I make customs, I usually try to make sure they'll have a place among one of the projects I'm already working on. But it took me six days to remember that there is one video-game-based figure I've been meaning to make for a long time now, from a video game I've barely even played and didn't enjoy that much when I did:

Image

Dutch from Alien vs. Predator!

The game was boring as hell, but I loved that Dutch made a triumphant return, with a giant robot arm that only makes him cooler. I've been circling the idea of making a custom of that design for years now, and what better excuse will I have than this CC?

Now it's just a question of whether a certain part will arrive in time. I laid out a rough idea of the parts, and ordered a figure that should complete it. A trip to storage to dig into a box of junk for one more piece and I should have a mock-up ready by tomorrow night.

Boring my butt! AvP is a classic in the beat-em-up genre. Between this and the NECA figures inspired by it, I just know I'm going to end up downloading an emulator again to play it.

Update: I'm expecting the part I need to actually get this guy started on Friday. But I have everything laid out and I'll be doing some prep work on a couple of pieces tomorrow. So, in other words, WIPs will be forthcoming.

Update: I actually did something. Here's a rough assembly of the parts, minus boots, head, and the more interesting part of the right arm. I'm working on those missing elements now, and the parts shown here still need some work, too. I'm hoping to have him done before CC13 ends...

I was already working against the clock, but a second deadline reared its head yesterday: I could feel a cold or something coming on, so I was frantically trying to finish this guy before it caught up to me. I didn't make it, but this is where I was when I went down:

I still have to extend the neck to accommodate the head, convert the lower legs into boots, add some things to the mechanical arm, and do some light painting, so I have some work to do...

This really was a great idea. Hope you get the time to finish it, because it's looking awesome so far.

Thanks! I made a tiny bit of progress on it over the weekend, and I'm hoping to finish it by the end of the week.
