I'm sorry. As much as I would like to have a 1/18 scale Airwolf their $20k goal amount is not nearly enough to get it done. |

the iguana made me smile, is it from the show? the scarface "kit" from the guy who used to be on here is a scary omen, or maybe he is part of this kickstarter? |

Materials used: The prototypes were primarily 3D printed. The finished product will be a combination of: -Durable Resin -Vacuumed formed plastic (Canopy Windows) -Steel (Hinges, features & such) -Magnets (Features & such) I didn't read every word but the durable resin bit makes me think they'll be 3DPrinting these instead of steel-molding them like usual. Assuming the Printers hold up and don't need replacing/repairing, 20K would buy a lot of filament. |

i looked at their website and etsy store. everything they offer is 3d printed so they have experience and some great reviews. the flag platform stands are impressive for 3d printed. i mainly was looking to see if the "kit" guys stuff showed up anywhere else with their company. i suppose they could be using him for the figures, or just borrowed that pic. either way yikes. |

I have the series on DVD, have to watch it sometime (along with the other 10+ series I have to watch). One thing I loved as a kid, but then hated as an adult, was the sidepod guns. If I remember correctly, the pod slides out and then the barrels extend.like a telescoping antenna/any extendable leg thing. The first section would bigger, then the next section smaller, then smaller, etc. How does the bullets travel down the first section without impacting the interior of that shortened barrel section? If the side pod came out, and then the barrel rotated forward, looking into place aligned with the ammo feed, then I could understand the mechanism of how the long barrel would fit into the sidepod. |

if the inner barrel was all one piece that "rides" in the staged tubes it might work, but not being able to see it i don't know. it sounds like it wouldn't work if there isn't enough room for the full length of barrel to slide rearward. a barrel with a bore that acted like what you describe wouldn't be anything functional . really nothing but a shroud. |

This is a very quick, very, very, very rough sketch I did to show what I meant. In Figure 1, the sidepod slides out. In Figure 2, the barrel slides forward and the little box rotates. When they lock in place, fully deployed, the ammo feeder lines up with the barrel. hmm i'm not sure the sketch helps me . it looks like the pod slides out then the barrel flips out like a folding knife. this is what i thought you meant, but a gun barrel.  for that style of set up it would work if the thinnest section actually ran the full length (inside the thicker sections). it could "collapse" by sliding out the rear, if there was a space there behind it. imma google airwolf guns and see wat i find

 http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Talk:Airwolf_-_Season_1 fake 50cals up top and the baton looking under barrel is fake 40mm grenade launcher. which isn't rifled like a rifle barrel, so should just be a big smooth tube. |

ok it looks like the rifle barrels might "slide" as one big unit. they definitely have barrel shrouds over a thinner inner barrel. the shrouds may collapse though as it retracts. worthpoint won't let me attach the pic, but here is the link to a blueprint. https://thumbs.worthpoint.com/zoom/imag ... 75b945.jpg |

It's a great idea, but definitely not for me. First is the size. If I ever got an Airwolf, I would like it to roughly scale with my Blue Thunder. This would dwarf it. The only things this would scale with would be my 1:18 WWII aircraft, and they wouldn't really "go together" very well. Second is the price. If I'm going to drop that much on 3D printed items, I'd rather get 3 or 4 more Bergeron Colonial Vipers or Buck Rogers Starfighters. |
