He was one of those artists that made drawing look so natural and deceptively easy. We lost one of the good ones.

When I met he & Larry (I believe Atlanta JoeCon) they autographed this Magazine-size digest for me. Neither one had ever seen the product before, and we had a little conversation about it. Enjoy every sandwich.

The cover to GI JOE #1 is iconic thanks to the artwork of Herb Trimpe.
R.I.P.

Heard about this just a few minutes ago. Very sad. Definitely a great comic artist and an excellent contributor to G.I. Joe. I'm also pleased that the Club enlisted his services for some file card illustrations a while back.

Everyone in social media is focusing so much on his Hulk work, but for me he is just so definitively GI JOE.

I had that very book, purchased at Toys R Us. I had started buying the GI Joe comics after they had been out about a year. Eventually I had them all and realized I'd read some of them before, hehe.

Sad day. He really means so much to what we enjoy here.

I remember meeting him in Atlanta. I had a Joe shirt with an iron on of this art

Even though Hasbro ripped off his issue #1 art, he'd never seen it before :-)

Does anyone recall whether there were any vehicles that Trimpe designed that ended up being made into toys?

I honestly don't know, but I do recall in one early letter-column of the comic book, some letter-writer made reference to a remarkable plane that they'd seen in one particular issue, and wondered what it was, one would assume hoping it would be a forthcoming toy.

The response from Marvel was, "That was a Trimpe-Jet!"

:-D

I think we need a Trimpe-Jet.

Can you find the reference photo for this?

Man this guy. He did the best comics. I ate up everything he drew. All my PIT dioramas are tributes to him. Sigh.
