After encountering Cobra Forces at an accelerated B.A.T. factory, it was thought Sci-Fi had been killed in the ensuing explosion, set off by Hot Wire to destroy any evidence of the Facility. a search of the ruins came up empty and an Empty Boot service was held in Sci-Fi's honor.
Unbeknown to G.I. Joe, Sci-Fi was indeed caught in the explosion but was very much alive when he was brought to Overkill's lab. Seizing to exploit Sci-Fi's intimate operational knowledge of G.I.Joe and for the shock value alone, he salvage what he could and created a Cyborg to be his battle-field general.
After Sci-Fi's B.A.T. forces had a Joe recon team cornered on New Cobra Island, Sci Fi's instincts to be a Joe overode his programing and he proceeded to wipe out the B.A.T. Army.
Now he returns to the Joe ranks, fighting again against Cobra and Overkill.
