Design:

Master Collector's version of Hotwire is what introduced me to the previously obscure card-game character.

I can't really justify buying one off of eBay, but I liked the character enough to make a custom.

Rather than trying to mimic the MC version, I went to the source material and started from scratch. Where the MC version used a Blanka head with a wide muscular jaw, I went with the '91 Destro head. It has the high cheekbones/sunken face/slender jaw much closer to the card artwork.

I made one labcoat from scratch before, for a GI Jane custom. It was a lot of effort and I was never really happy with it. Initially, I worked on a Jedi cloak for the lab coat, but it didn't look right so I scrapped it altogether. Instead, I went with a buttoned-up-shirt look instead.

A buzzer scalp serves as the hair base and was sculpted over to make the hair closer to the card art.

The Laser Viper arms are the only MC parts I would have liked to have copied, but didn't have any. Much to my surprise, the Doc arms work pretty well with the flesh part and rolled sleeve painted as one glove.

At the moment, the eyewear is a separate piece, though I may glue it to the forehead. Just can bring myself to do it at the moment.

Colors:

The card art shows Hotwire wearing an earthy-toned t-shirt, so I painted the neck area of the Chuckles chest to show that. Chuckles' shirt also had some oversized buttons, which I removed. No matter how much I sanded, the shirt looked scratchy. To hide the scratchy look, I dusted the white with a bit of grey splatter for a grimy look and then added "grease smudges".

The MC figure has purple pants. While this might be logical for a techno-viper-esque character, I've always thought large amounts of purple look silly. I used Cobra blue instead, but dusted it with brown splatter for a grimy look.

Thanks for looking.
