GREEN MAMBA
COBRA ASSASSIN

The green mamba is a particularly venomous species of African snake. It is quite striking in its coloration, predominantly a bright green. But it is also a highly dangerous snake, quick and deadly. And Green Mamba is the perfect name for this newly-hired assassin who works for Cobra, mostly on international missions in jungle and forest settings. She's apparently from South Africa, and reportedly has been trained by both Major Bludd and Firefly. Her uniform, provided by Cobra, utilizes a variation of the "Python Patrol" technology, coupled with some of the strange technology acquired from Cobra-La, making her largely undetectable to most electronic surveillance methods, and allowing her to blend in with a wilderness environment almost perfectly. Not that she really needs them. Like her namesake, she is swift and deadly. She has an affinity for using poisons in her work, often utilizing arrows tipped with a toxin developed by Cobra from several species of venomous snakes that causes cellular degradation in its target. It's so unpleasant that even Cobra doesn't like to use it on a regular basis. Green Mamba doesn't care. For reasons unknown, she has an intense hatred of G.I.Joe.

From General Hawk's Files: "Green Mamba doesn't make any secret of her work, or how much she enjoys it. It's no wonder that not even Cobra hires her all that often. She's just too dangerous to have around on a regular basis. She's utterly deadly, and totally without compassion. She enjoys her work, far too much. It's too easy to call her crazy. She's not crazy. She's evil, and of a different sort than Cobra Commander. One can almost understand his quest for power. But all Green Mamba wants is the chance to kill, as unpleasantly as possible, and be paid well for it. There's no way any reasonable person can understand that."

Figure Origin: Some time back, I customized a Sonya Blade figure, but I was never really happy with it, so recently I "de-customized" it, but without any real idea of what to do with her, so I just kept the figure around in case something inspired me.

I was watching a Steve Irwin show one evening, and he was showing off this bright green African snake called the green mamba, a very deadly, venomous snake. All of a sudden I was inspired. It was a good name, a good Cobra connection, and an interesting look.

My original plan was to paint alternating criss-cross lines on the Sonya Blade uniform, using narrow masking tape, and chalk it up to a variant of Python Patrol. This proved unworkable. I couldn't get the tape to lay down evenly enough, and the paint was too thick. So I needed a "Plan B".

Then I remembered I had this bright paint around that sprayed out a "Cobweb" design. Although it wasn't really intended to be used on something as small as a G.I.Joe figure, it did produce an interesting look, appropriate and a little creepy to the character I had developed. I decided to throw in a Cobra-La connection to the file card, since the thick and somewhat globby texture of the paint reminded me a bit of Pythona's uniform, or what it might feel like. Then I just added the face paint details with a matching color of standard acrylic.
