All 1993 Cobra Invader

Cobra Black Ball

In attempt to make older equipment serviceable, Cobra Commander commissioned M.A.R.S to upgrade several vehicles, including the Pogo. With a limited time on target and high radar signature original Pogo had exceedingly limited battlefield capabilities. Most Vipers refused to fly it, and the ones that did often ended up with neurological and physical damage due to high G-force black- and red-outs and jarring landings. In an effort to make the Pogo more serviceable, M.A.R.S designers opted to change its role and make it a more effective hit-and-run vehicle. This began with swapping out the basic electronics package for a state of the art ECM and ECCM suite, infrared and night vision systems, several coats of blackball paint, stronger shock absorbers and a new baffle system designed to lower the heat signature from the jets.

These upgrades have allowed the Black Ball to become a more fearsome presence on the battlefield. Most effective at night and in hilly terrain the Black Ball is often deployed in groups of five, where the pilots will lay in wait for their target, popping up at the last possible second and unleash a volley of missiles before disappearing again in ground cover.

Originally this was done as a bet to see if I could make the Invader cool and useful. It ended up being used as a prize in a speed painting contest at this year's Joe Canuck meet.
