Crystal Ball has the ability to read minds and tell the future, but his ability was sporadic at best. Recently he's noticed a pattern and discovered how to enhance his abilities. By causing pain and fear in his "subjects", he can read their minds and futures with clarity. Crystal ball has taken on the duty of Cobra's Chief Interrogator, torturing prisoners until their minds unfold to him.

There are even rumors that Cobra Commander submits himself to torture on the eve of battle so he may see the outcome and avoid error, and that this is the secret to his increasing self-confidence. It is said that this is how he managed to escape his fate at the hands of Serpentor and the Coil at the Battle of Cobra Island.
