The TBC Overkill's filecard mentioned him being the result of early attempts at upgrading the Battle Android Trooper design, this is just how I picture a B.A.T. resulting from that project might appear.

As with everything, even Battle Android Troopers go through blueprints, prototypes, and test runs before reaching the final production model. At present, Cobra is testing this design as a possible successor to the B.A.T. mark II after the discovery of flaws in the B.A.T. mark III.
