My first JvC custom was a faceplate Cobra Commander using the same formula, but in a dominant black 'n silver color scheme that turned out really well. Since then, I felt I've come quite a way from then and decided to take another crack at doing my first custom again, this time with the traditional blue color scheme that the Commander is famous for.
I used a deeper blue and paint over the whole custom, and I even painted over the gray parts again with a slightly darker gray. I liked Black Out's arms cause of the Cobra gauntlets, which was why I used them in the first place and painted them partially gold. Once again, the size of the helmet solves the "over-proportion" problem of CC's torso, something that worked for my original custom as well. Painting over the black portions was a little difficult too, but I managed to solve that problem by painting white over them first. All in all, this was mostly a custom that has kind of reminded me how far I have come with my work and it is dedicated to one of the best villains in cartoon and comic history as well as to Chris Latta (the voice of CC), whose birthday was a few weeks ago. He will be missed.
My first CC custom is up here on joecustoms.com as well,so feel free to do a comparison between the two. Thanks for looking!
